Septoplasty

Septoplasty is a surgical procedure to correct deviations in the nasal septum. The septum is a partition made of cartilage and bone that divides the nose into two halves. Deviations can make breathing difficult and lead to various health issues.

Nasal Turbinate Swelling (Turbinate Hypertrophy)

In the nose, the turbinates located on both side walls can often grow on the opposite side of a septal deviation. This can increase nasal congestion and cause other discomforts.

Surgical Method and Aftercare

Septoplasty is typically performed using a closed endoscopic technique. This method allows for correction inside the nose without making any external incisions. This approach reduces the risk of bruising and swelling post-operation, and there is no external scar. During the surgery, silicone splints are placed inside the nose; these splints help maintain airflow and support healing. The splints are usually removed after about 5 days.

Post-surgery, the patient can often return to work the next day. Additionally, turbinate enlargements can be reduced using laser or radiofrequency methods.

Age Restriction

Septoplasty is generally recommended to be performed from the age of 18 and above, as the nasal structures are not fully developed before this age.

For the successful execution of this surgery, it is crucial to choose a suitable surgeon and to carefully follow pre- and post-operative instructions.
